Introducing the pre-war A-2 Jacket, Contract 42-1402-P by Werber Sportswear Co., Newburgh, New York—among the earliest and most respected suppliers of A-2 jackets to the U.S. Armed Forces. This final Werber contract, awarded in August 1941, stands as a rare and historically significant example from the dawn of American military aviation heritage.
The Werber pattern is distinguished by its sharply tailored, slim silhouette, featuring notably high armholes, a slender body, and narrower shoulders than most contemporary A-2 designs—resulting in a refined, close-fitting profile of unmistakable character.
Signature elements include the elegant collar stand, narrow epaulets, and pronounced topstitching along the collar and pocket flaps, lending depth and definition to the design. The distinctive pocket flaps and square reinforcement stitching echo details seen in select period jackets, underscoring the authenticity of this exceptional pattern.
All known originals of this contract were crafted in seal brown horsehide, including the reference example from which our patterns were meticulously developed. Our reproduction captures every nuance with uncompromising precision, honoring the integrity of the original in every detail.
The piece displayed is rendered in Liberty Horsehide Seal, complemented by a muted orange lining and medium-brown stitching—a timeless expression of craftsmanship, heritage, and enduring sophistication, destined to be treasured for a lifetime.
