A rare convergence of military innovation and timeless design, the AN-J-3 Flight Jacket was conceived in 1943 as a joint initiative between the U.S. Army Air Forces and the U.S. Navy. Intended to unify flight apparel, streamline production, and reduce logistical complexity, the AN-J-3 represents a bold yet short-lived chapter in aviation history.
Produced only in extremely limited numbers—mere dozens—the jacket never reached full standardization, rendering surviving originals exceptionally scarce. Yet its elegant, purposeful design did not go unnoticed. Contemporary leather manufacturers quickly recognized its appeal, adapting it for civilian use, where it evolved into one of the enduring archetypes of the modern bomber jacket.
The version we present is the civilian AN-J-3, the most recognized and sought-after interpretation. Distinguished by its epaulettes, double-ply knitted waistband, and the absence of a storm flap, it strikes a perfect balance between military heritage and refined civilian style.
Crafted with uncompromising attention to detail, our AN-J-3 employs premium materials inspired by its wartime counterparts, including robust, military-grade leather and a solid cotton lining reminiscent of classic A-2 construction. Every element is executed with immaculate workmanship, ensuring both authenticity and enduring comfort.
The jacket on display is rendered in Victory Horsehide Dark Seal, complemented by dark olive-drab stitching—an elegant, heirloom-quality garment that embodies rarity, craftsmanship, and the quiet sophistication of a design that transcends its origins.
