Star 18245
£1,055.00
A singular masterpiece of American aviation heritage, this A-2 Jacket from Star Sportswear Mfg. Co. of Lynn, Massachusetts represents the manufacturer’s only wartime A-2 contract, a rare and historically significant contribution to military flight apparel.
The Star 18245 pattern is exquisitely slim, tailored for a refined silhouette while offering functional comfort. Expertly inset (rotated) sleeves enhance mobility, and the signature “crescent-moon” collar sits lower in the front, unobstructed by the wearer’s movements—a subtle yet remarkable detail. The throat hook is secured with golden-finished brass eyelets, a unique feature exclusive to Star, distinguishing it from all other A-2 makers.
While many believed the lining to be a dull mid-brown “dirt” tone, careful study of original examples reveals a rich, dark brown hue, a testament to the jacket’s understated sophistication. Originals were crafted in seal brown horsehide, stitched with either tan or muted purple-brown thread—details faithfully captured in this reproduction.
The jacket on display is rendered in Liberty Seal Horsehide, with a dark tan lining and Perry-purple stitching, executed with immaculate workmanship, preserving every nuance of the original while offering a wearable collector’s masterpiece that embodies heritage, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance.
