M-422 Willis & Geiger

£1,200.00

The United States Navy’s Bureau of Aeronautics (BuAero) first introduced the M-422 flight jacket to its aviators in 1938, establishing a new standard in naval aviation apparel. This remarkable garment soon secured its place in history as one of the first American uniform pieces to see active combat, worn by the legendary Flying Tigers—the American Volunteer Group—during their operations over China beginning in April 1941.

True to its original specification, the M-422 was crafted from seal brown goatskin, complemented by a richly toned reddish-brown mouton (lambswool) collar, rib-rack cuffs, and a single-layer waistband. Every one of these defining characteristics has been reproduced with unwavering precision, including the subtle yet iconic “USN” stencil beneath the collar—an enduring hallmark of authenticity.

Our interpretation is a faithful and exacting reproduction of the original M-422 jackets as manufactured by Willis & Geiger Inc., a name synonymous with early American exploration and aviation outfitting. Established in the early 20th century, Willis & Geiger earned a distinguished reputation supplying garments engineered for extreme conditions—serving adventurers, explorers, and military aviators alike. Their commitment to functional excellence and enduring materials made them a natural choice for military contracts, and their legacy remains deeply respected among connoisseurs of historical flight apparel.

This edition represents the culmination of extensive research and meticulous development. Through a rigorous process of study and refinement, we have succeeded in replicating the original hides with exceptional accuracy—matching their color, grain structure, weight, and overall character to an extraordinary degree.

Further elevating the garment, we have incorporated a heavyweight mil-spec rayon lining, reproduced in the exact tone and density specified during the WWII era, alongside a mouton collar rendered in the precise historical shade of brown. Every component has been selected and executed with a singular objective: uncompromising authenticity.

The result is a jacket of rare distinction—arguably the closest reproduction of the original WWII M-422 available today.

Jacket presented with original vintage brown fur.
