Nuremberg Aviator

In January 2024, we were entrusted by the costume designer of the forthcoming motion picture Nuremberg (2025), starring Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon, with the creation of a bespoke leather jacket for the film’s principal character. The commission called for a historically grounded piece—an interpretation of a privately acquired civilian jacket of the WWII era—imbued with authenticity and subtle individuality.

The brief was as much about character as it was about craft: the jacket was to reflect the personality of Douglas Kelley—an unconventional figure, a renegade intellect, and a man set apart from the rigidity of military conformity.

The result is a beautifully realized half-belt jacket, executed with meticulous precision and a deep respect for period-correct design. Its striking asymmetrical front zipper is complemented by a wide lapel collar, lending the piece both presence and sophistication. A distinctive D-pocket anchors the composition, accompanied by a flap pocket with button closure and an additional angled slit pocket—details that balance utility with refined aesthetics.

Button-adjustable cuffs, a rich brown 100% cotton body lining, and smooth rayon-lined sleeves ensure both comfort and functionality, while every construction detail reflects our uncompromising standards of craftsmanship. The jacket is finished with a “Block-Bilt” label, a name synonymous with exceptional quality and evocative of early-to-mid 20th-century aviation-inspired design.
