JACKET, AVIATOR INTERMEDIATE LEATHER, TYPE G-1, PRITZKER
£1,200.00
The A. Pritzker & Sons 55-J-14 G-1 represents one of the most coveted flight jackets in U.S. naval aviation history. Introduced in the late 1940s, the 55-J-14 was the first jacket officially designated "G-1," establishing the blueprint for a design that would remain in service with the U.S. Navy for decades. Among the original contracts produced during this period, those manufactured by A. Pritzker & Sons are particularly prized by collectors for their exceptional craftsmanship, distinctive materials, and refined construction.
Developed as the successor to the wartime AN-J-3A, the 55-J-14 marked the evolution of military flight apparel into a purpose-built garment for the jet age. Its clean, functional design reflects the uncompromising standards of postwar naval aviation, combining durability, mobility, and timeless style in a silhouette that remains as relevant today as it was over seventy years ago.
This faithful reproduction captures every defining detail of the original Pritzker contract. Crafted from premium Maltese goatskin, tanned in Italy, the jacket offers the supple feel, pronounced natural grain, and exceptional durability that made goatskin the Navy's leather of choice. A luxurious dark brown mouton collar provides warmth and unmistakable character, while the bi-swing action back and underarm gussets ensure unrestricted freedom of movement. Authentic details, including the two button-flap patch pockets, wool rib-knit cuffs and waistband, period-correct hardware, and a richly toned rayon lining, faithfully recreate the look and feel of the original issue jacket.
More than a reproduction, the Pritzker 55-J-14 is a tribute to one of the defining garments of American military aviation. Built using traditional materials and time-honored craftsmanship, it is designed to age with grace, developing a rich patina and unique character through years of wear. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, it represents not only the origins of the legendary G-1, but also a lasting symbol of heritage, authenticity, and enduring style.
