How to measure yourself for jacket ordering.

Please let us have the following 5 measurements before you order.

1. Your Height

2. Your Weight

3. Your Chest circumference (wearing a t-shirt only).

Use a measuring tape and measure around your chest (at nipples level).

4. Your Waist circumference (at belly button level).

5. Your Lower Waist circumference (at belt level).

6. Your Shoulder circumference

With the arms relaxed and down at the side, measure around the shoulders just above the biceps. (Don’t take this measurement yourself, ask somebody else to help you so that you have both your arms down at the sides during measurement).

The 37JI jacket, made of capeskin leather, was issued by the US Navy Bureau of Aeronautics in July 1927 almost in parallel with the US Army Air Corps' adoption of the TYPE A-1 leather jacket and stayed in service for a short 3 years. The specification was either a bit vague or perhaps loosely followed by the manufacturers of the era which is why we see period photos of the jackets with various constructional differences. It could be also that there have been a few test jackets in circulation before the specification was standardized. Either that, or the Navy aviators were allowed to wear private purchase jackets of a similar design. Whatever the case may be we can now offer for the acute collector accurate reproductions of several of those designs.

Later, in the early thirties, the US Navy replaced the 37JI leather jacket for a similar garment made of "jungle cloth" which was used until the introduction of the cotton M-421 jacket and later in 1940, the M-422 jacket which was made in goatskin leather.

Any one of the following five conditions below must apply for your custom size order to be accepted. Please tick as appropriate.

1. I have bought a regular size or custom size from you before and know how your jackets fit. I will send you the requested measurements with follow-up email. (+£100.00)

2. I will give you my body measurements, specifically, height, weight, chest circumference, shoulders circumference, waist at belly button measurement, waist at belt measurement and will let you know what kind of fit I prefer, slim, regular or loose with follow-up email. I understand that for a proper fit a jacket’s chest should be 3-4 inches larger than the wearer’s chest. (+£100.00)

3. I will give you measurements from another jacket that fits me well. Those measurements come from the maker of that jacket which I already have or will obtain from the maker. Self taken measurements will not be accepted. (+£100.00)

4. I will send you, at my expense, a jacket that fits me well so you can replicate its measurements. My jacket will be returned to me on delivery of the jacket I am ordering, or, if I need it earlier at my expense. (+£100.00)

5. None of the above. I will contact you about my requirements by email. (+£100.00)
