Arco 21996

£1,055.00

A quintessential example of American aviation heritage, this A-2 Jacket by Aero Leather Clothing Co., Contract W535 AC-21996 was produced on 14 October 1941, representing the fifth of Aero’s seven distinguished wartime contracts, with a production run of 25,000  jackets.

Original examples were rendered in russet or seal brown horsehide, with some pieces delivered in cowhide, combining durability with refined aesthetics. The pattern is elegantly proportioned, featuring an easy-fitting torso and shoulders to provide effortless mobility in the cockpit while accommodating layered flight garments. Interiors were finished in mustard-toned cotton, stitched with brown or olive-drab thread, and complemented by mid-brown or Aero’s signature red wool knits—subtle hallmarks of early-1940s craftsmanship.

Authentic period details, including large ring collar snaps and the distinctive bell-shaped Talon zipper, convey both the historical significance and functional sophistication of the original design. Each element has been faithfully reproduced with flawless craftsmanship, preserving the balance of utility, comfort, and timeless elegance.

The jacket on display is crafted in Liberty Russet Horsehide, with mustard-brown lining, olive-drab stitching, and red-rust wool knits—an extraordinary collector’s garment that seamlessly unites historical fidelity, exceptional craftsmanship, and the enduring prestige of one of the most celebrated A-2 flight jackets of the Second World War.
