A landmark in American aviation clothing history, the Aero Leather Clothing Co. Order No. 42-15142-P represents one of the most celebrated A-2 contracts of World War II. Signed on March 28, 1942, and produced throughout the year, an estimated 50,000 jackets were issued, marking the A-2’s evolution from a limited, elite garment to a mass-issued standard of U.S. Army Air Forces flight attire—an enduring symbol of courage, adventure, and American air power.

Known among collectors as one of the most classic and wearable A-2 patterns, this contract is prized for its balanced proportions, clean lines, and authentic wartime character. The pattern features a distinctive wide collar, squared patch pockets with flaps, and a slightly relaxed silhouette, designed for the comfort and mobility demanded by aircrew.

Our reproduction is executed in premium Liberty russet horsehide, carefully finished to echo the warm tones of early-1940s originals. With wear, the leather develops a rich patina, reflecting the natural aging of vintage examples while preserving a refined, luxurious feel. Period-authentic details—including brown or rust-colored wool knit cuffs and waistband, a Talon zipper, and mustard-brown cotton lining—are reproduced with masterful precision, capturing every nuance of the historic garment.

Every element speaks to the rugged practicality of wartime manufacturing, yet with the timeless elegance that elevated the A-2 to an icon of military aviation. Originally worn by bomber and fighter pilots across Europe and the Pacific, this jacket carries the spirit of daring flight and disciplined heroism.

The piece on display is rendered in Liberty Russet Horsehide, with mustard-brown lining, olive-drab stitching, and brown knits—an exceptional collector’s garment designed for enthusiasts who value heritage, authenticity, and the enduring legacy of the World War II A-2 flight jacket.
